RECOMENDACIONES PARA PREVENIR SINIESTROS CON LA CALEFACCIÓN EN LOS HOGARES
La Municipalidad de La Costa recuerda a la comunidad una serie de recaudos a tomar para una calefacción segura en los hogares, que prevenga distintos tipo de accidentes en la comunidad.
Una de las primeras medidas precautorias se relaciona a la puesta en marcha de los artefactos. Se recomienda que un gasista matriculado verifique las condiciones en que se encuentran los artefactos, las conexiones como los tirajes, para de este modo prevenir fugas de gas y posibles obstrucciones en las cañerías de salida del gas (en el caso del tiro balanceado). Lo mismo se recomienda para los artefactos de calefacción eléctricos.
Una vez en funcionamiento, las estufas que no tienen salida al exterior y que por ende realizan todo el proceso de combustión dentro de los ambientes, requieren de una cuota extra de prevención. Mantener algún ingreso de aire limpio del exterior, para este tipo de calefactores que consumen el oxígeno y liberan el gas monóxido de carbono.
El monóxido de carbono es un gas –de características incoloras, inodoras e insípidas– en una concentración alta conduce a la muerte de la persona. Por su peligrosidad y su dificultad para advertirlo, es imperiosa la necesidad de mantener filtraciones de aire que aseguren un recambio de oxígeno. Por eso, ante síntomas como dolor de cabeza, náuseas, debilidad o malestar general, abrir inmediatamente el o los ambientes para ventilar, y comunicarse inmediatamente con emergencias.
En las horas nocturnas de descanso, se aconseja apagar las estufas llamadas infrarrojas (aquellas que realizan la combustión adentro) y las eléctricas. En las primeras, el riesgo se vincula principalmente a la intoxicación por monóxido de carbono, y en las segundas, se relaciona a eventuales problemas en la instalación eléctrica o recalentamientos de los artefactos que desemboquen en cortocircuitos.
En este sentido, las estufas de tiro balanceado serían las más seguras (siempre que estén correctamente revisadas), pero igualmente se sugiere apagarlas o mantenerlas al mínimo de potencia. Se recomienda, además, que en ningún momento las temperaturas sean sofocantes y, que siempre haya un ingreso de aire del exterior.
