Leonela Ayala, hermana del padre de la víctima, se hizo cargo del asesinato en la dependencia policial. Los peritos creem que la mataron en la vivienda que comparte con su pareja.
Luego del hallazgo del cuerpo sin vida de Sheila Ayala, y tras varias hipótesis que investiga la Justicia, una hermana del padre de la menor confesó que fue la autora del asesinato y que lo habría realizado junto a su pareja.
Leonela Ayala argumentó que jnunto a FabiánEzequiel González Rojas estaban bajo los efectos de drogas y alcohol y no recuerdan como perpetraron el infanticidio. La mujer está embarazada, su pareja nació en Encarnación, Paraguay, y posee antecedentes penales del 2013 cuando le abrieron una causa en San Martín por robo agravado en poblado y en banda.
Al ser detenidos, habrían declarado que fueron los autores del crimen en un momento en que ambos estaban drogados, pero no dieron mayores detalles. Según se supo la mujer expresó que: «Tomamos alcohol y drogas y no sabemos qué pasó».
Esta confesión hecha en dependencia policial deberá ser ratificada ante la Justicia para que tenga validez.
La pareja vive en un departamento que para los investigadores, podría ser el lugar donde la niña fue asesinada. Al requisar el sitio los peritos encontraron un colchón donde observaron que sobrevolaban decenas de moscas, lo que sería el primer indicio de que contaba con restos orgánicos.
