FUNDACION MUNDO MARINO: Tres lobos marinos, tres tortugas y dos comadrejas regresaron a sus hogares
Se trata de ejemplares que habían sido rescatados y recuperados por el equipo de profesionales de la Fundación Mundo Marino.
San Clemente del Tuyú. Ocho animales de diferentes especies pudieron regresar a sus hábitats naturales luego de concluir sus periodos de rehabilitación. En el caso de los lobos marinos, se trató de ejemplares de Dos Pelos Sudamericanos que habían ingresado al Centro de Rescate y Rehabilitación de Mundo Marino con cuadros de desnutrición. Tras un periodo de recuperación de un mes, retornaron juntos al mar.
En el caso de las tortugas se trató de dos ejemplares de la especie conocida como Acuática de Cuello Largo (Hydromedusa tectifera) que habían sido rescatadas el 15 de octubre de 2017 -y que tuvieron un periodo de recuperación de tres meses – y una tortuga Verde rescatada por un pescador de la zona durante los primeros días de enero. Una de las tortugas de Cuello Largo presentaba bajo peso e inflamación en ambos ojos con presencia de tejido muerto en párpados. Frente a esa situación, el equipo veterinario le realizó una extracción de sangre, le suministró antiinflamatorio y vitaminas y luego inició un tratamiento con antibióticos. En tanto, la tortuga Verde, como ocurre con el 97% de las tortugas marinas que ingresan a la Fundación, presentaba plástico en su aparato digestivo. A ella se la monitoreó hasta comprobar que había expulsado el plástico de su sistema.
Las dos comadrejas, por su parte, habían llegado a Mundo Marino luego de haber quedado huérfanas a los pocos días de nacer cuando un perro mató a la madre de ambas. Estos ejemplares pudieron sobrevivir porque una familia de San Clemente se ocupó de ellas.
Sin embargo, esta especie no es doméstica, si no silvestre, y por lo tanto no deben adoptarse como mascotas. Es importante destacar este mensaje y acompañar la decisión de la familia que las cuidó, ya que a pesar del cariño que les había tomado tras alimentarlas las primeras noches críticas y atenderlas durante meses, decidieron que las comadrejas tenían que llevar una vida acorde a las necesidades de su especie. Por eso, recurrieron a Mundo Marino, para que el equipo de profesionales y técnicos los asistiera e reinserte en un hábitat natural luego de asegurarse que estuviesen en condiciones médicas y sanitarias para hacerlo.
Una vez que las comadrejas llegaron las instalaciones de Mundo Marino, comenzó un proceso de seis meses para readaptar a los animales a los hábitos que les son propios. Para ello, el primer paso estuvo a cargo de un equipo de veterinarios y nutricionistas que realizaron los primeros controles y diseñaron una dieta especial para ellos. En una segunda etapa, y en un espacio reducido, se los estimuló para que realicen movimientos que imitasen a los que deberían hacer en la Naturaleza, a través de tareas de enriquecimiento ambiental propuestas por sus cuidadores.
Luego de este periodo de adaptación, pasaron a un predio de mayor tamaño similar a un hábitat natural. En esa instancia, se disminuyó progresivamente el contacto con los humanos restringiéndose sólo a necesidades muy puntuales de asistencia, para prepararlos para su posterior reinserción. La etapa final concluyó cuando los animales lograron modificar sus hábitos diurnos –que habían adoptado por convivir con humanos- por los nocturnos, que son los que corresponden a su especie, y obtuvieron el alta médico-veterinaria de los profesionales de Mundo Marino y la autorización de la Dirección de Flora y Fauna del Ministerio de Agro-Industria de la Provincia de Buenos Aires para su reintroducción.
Las comadrejas poseen una corta vida, en promedio 3 años. Si bien según la IUCN (Unión Internacional de Conservación) clasifica a Didelphis albiventris como una especie de preocupación menor, tanto en nuestro país como a nivel internacional (recordemos que habitan desde el noreste de Brasil hasta Río Negro), poseen amenazas, siendo una de ellas la de los humanos que las atacan en zonas urbanas o de campo donde hay animales de granja.
