Científicos de Argentina, Brasil y Francia buscan desarrollar una vacuna contra el coronavirus oral

Científicos de Argentina, Brasil y Francia iniciaron un proyecto que se encuentra en fase preclínica para desarrollar una vacuna contra el coronavirus SARS-CoV-2 oral que tendría “mayor aceptación para la población y favorecería su almacenamiento a temperatura ambiente”.
La iniciativa es liderada por Hugo Luján, del Conicet y de la Universidad Católica de Córdoba; Jorge Kalil, de la Universidad Federal de San Pablo, Brasil, y David Klatzmann, de la Universidad de la Sorbona, en Francia, uno de los descubridores del virus del Sida, informó la agencia CyTA-Leloir.
A pesar de la facilidad con que se administran y conservan, la Organización Mundial de la Salud (OMS) recomienda vacunas orales sólo para la polio, las diarreas por rotavirus y el cólera.
El objetivo de las investigaciones llevadas a cabo por científicos de Argentina, Francia y Brasil es comprobar si a esa selecta lista se le puede agregar una fórmula para el coronavirus SARS-CoV-2.
“Apuntamos al desarrollo de una vacuna que se podría aplicar como una pastilla, lo que tendría mayor aceptación para la población y favorecería su almacenamiento a temperatura ambiente”, dijo Luján, investigador titular del Conicet, profesor de la Universidad Católica de Córdoba (UCC) y director del Centro de Investigación y Desarrollo en Inmunología y Enfermedades Infecciosas (CIDIE).
Agregó que “no requeriría de jeringas o agujas que luego tienen que ser cuidadosamente descartadas e incineradas”.
